Birchbox #6 - June 2018

As you can see from the title of this post, I re-subscribed to Birchbox again! My last box was February 2016, so it has been a while. I only subscribed again this time because I saw the preview of it on Facebook and I really wanted the tin. The boxes are usually made out of cardboard, but this month they have chosen a very pretty and re-useable tin.
For those of you that haven’t subscribed to Birchbox before, the boxes are £10.00, plus £2.95 postage. The courier who delivers your box is Hermes. I actually hate Hermes because they never actually deliver my parcel; they throw it over my garden gate and leave it in the garden! Also, if you miss them, they leave you a ‘Sorry I Tried to Deliver’ card on the street and it doesn’t have any details on the card for you to contact them to arrange re-delivery, they are a horrible company! But, hay ho, Birchbox uses them as their official courier and I did get my parcel in peace this time. Mini rant over!

This is the five year birthday box and you usually get five products, but this month there are six. You also get a 15% off code for The Birchbox Shop.
ELLA EDEN EYESHADOW IN JULIA
3.0g - RRP £12.99
There was a choice of two shades and I chose the shade Julia. It is a pale sandy fawn shade. It is a pressed mineral eyeshadow, which you can apply wet if you want a bolder look. It is a beautiful colour and very blinding.

BENEFIT POREFESSIONAL PEARL PRIMER
22ml - RRP £27.50
I got a 3ml sample of the primer, which is very cute. It is supposed to brighten up your skin and it has an oil-free texture just like the original POREfessional primer. I don’t use face primer, so this product is something I am not really interested in trying at the moment.

NUMBER 4 JOUR D’AUTOMNE SMOOTHING BALM
150ml - RRP £24.50
I got a 30ml sample of the hair product. It is supposed to minimize frizz, restore softness and protect against humidity and heat damage. I was going to say I am not interested in hair products, but this sounds like something I would benefit from. I wash my hair at night and you have to work it through wet hair, so it is not like I will need extra time in the morning to use it before going to work. It has been quite hot and humid recently here in England and my hair starts to curl throughout the day, even though I straighten it with heat in the morning!

POLAAR VELVETY SUN FLUID FACE & BODY
200ml - RRP £25.00
I got a 20ml tube of this sunscreen. It supposedly doesn’t leave white residue and it should sink into your quickly and protect your skin from UV rays. It has an SPF factor of 30. I don’t often wear sunscreen as I mostly stay indoors, but it will come in handy when I go to the beach.

MODELCO EYE DEFINE CRAYON EYELINER IN BLACK
RRP £11.00
It is just a thin and mechanical eyeliner pencil and it is supposed to glide on with ease, last all day and it doesn’t require sharpening. As good as it sounds; the only black eyeliner pencil I will use is Perversion by Urban Decay.

WHITTARD OF CHELSEA TEABAGS
50 Individual Bags - RRP £5.00
You get three different individually wrapped teabags inside a small card box; Earl Grey, Mango & Bergamot and Lemon & Ginger. I am not into flavoured teas so I will not be trying these. I just like regular English tea with one sugar and a bit of semi-skimmed milk. You are supposed to get three different teabags, but I noticed that I was given two Lemon & Ginger teabags instead of a Mango & Bergamot teabag. You also get a 20% off promo code included in the box (valid with a £25.00 spend on teabags).

SMITH & CULT THE SHINING LIP LACQUER IN FADE THE SUN
5ml - RRP £21.00
I got this product as a free gift as I was a ‘new’ subscriber this month. It is a very pretty lipgloss, but I do not do lipgloss. I find lipgloss sticky and unnecessary now that we have liquid lipsticks in an array of colours and finishes.

Overall I did like this box, but I am remembering why I unsubscribed in the first place. I am mostly interested in make-up and perfume, but Birchbox includes all cosmetic types of products in their boxes, which means I will always struggle to find a box that I am completely happy with. I will stay subscribed for the time being, but I am unsure how long it will last.

My Eye Primers: The Verdict!

It has taken me a long time to put this altogether, but I have finally done it! I decided I wanted to share my thoughts on eye primers I had tried and it turned out that I had ten, so I thought I would test them and find out which one worked best for me. I have split them into two categories (High End/Low End) and I aim to rank them from #1 to #10 on which is the longest wearing. Let’s look at the primers I will be testing. HIGH END URBAN DECAY PRIMER POTION PRICE: £17.50 SIZE: 10ml SHADES: Original, Anti-ageing, Freebase, Eden, Fix, Minor Sin, Sin and Caffeine APPLICATION: Squeeze tube without a nozzle, but also has a sponge stick applicator PROMISES: Non-creasing, gives you vibrant eyeshadows WHERE TO BUY: UrbanDecay.co.uk (UK) & Sephora (USA) I like to think that this primer is my favourite as I love the packaging (purple is my favourite colour). It is potion bottle inspired and it is the first primer I remember ever seeing and wanting. The packa...

Perfume Power! - Next 'Paradise'

I first smelt this perfume after receiving it in a mini gift set about ten years ago and I have loved it ever since. This 100ml size is my first bottle of it though, other than the tester/sample size. The bottle is quite tall and it is a sort of clutch bag shape if you turn it on its side. The bottle is a simple design and you can easily see how much perfume you have. On mine the spray pump sometimes gets stuck in the band around the neck of the bottle, but the problem is easily solved. I can’t find a specific note list anywhere for this perfume, but on Next’s site it is described as, "a light fruity fragrance with white florals and green notes". To me it smells really fruity and fresh. It is also multifunctional because it is quite strong and sexy, so perfect for a night out, but it is also not too overpowering and smells fresh and fruity enough for day time wear. It is actually an eau de toilette, which means that it is less concentrated, but I find that it is st...

Oden's Eye Solmåne Eyeshadow Palette

I first heard of this indie brand through watching Angelika Oles’ beauty channel on YouTube. Oden’s Eye is a Swedish indie brand and they make Norse mythology themed products. This is one of two eyeshadow palettes I decided to purchase; I also picked up the two matching highlighter palettes.   THE PACKAGING The packaging is small and rectangular in shape. It is made out of cardboard and it has a sort of textured covering (like on pogs). The design and imagery is so unique to the brand. Solmåne means the sun and moon in Swedish. Sol represents the Sun Goddess and Måne represents the Moon God. Both Gods are represented on the packaging. There is a colour split of warm and cool toned shades (lavender, pink, orange & yellow) along with moon, star and Norse symbols. The wheel around the Gods is metallic gold, so it really reflects the light when you move the palette around. The eyeshadow shade names are printed on the back of the palette. The palette has a magnetic closing/opening, ...
