Serial Sampler #18

I received this sample through the post and I am not sure who it is from. I assume maybe the brand sent it to me, but I am not sure. I have taken advantage of FREE perfume samples on Facebook before, so I wonder if it is a brand I have received samples from before. I definitely didn’t send of a request for this particular scent. It was the first time I had ever heard of or seen this scent when I opened the packet. I was also sent a sample of the masculine version of the scent in the same packet.

Today’s sample is Valentino Donna Born in Roma by Valentino and it is a 1.2ml spritzer sample of the eau de parfum.

“A floriental woody fragrance”

It contains a mixture notes, such as; Blackcurrant, Bergamot, Pink Pepper, Jasmine Tea, Jasmine, Jasmine Sambac, Cashmeran, Guaiac Wood and Bourbon Vanilla.

It smells really fresh and feminine. I can really smell the bergamot, jasmine and the spice of the pink pepper with hints of the vanilla peeking through. It is definitely a floral scent, but it is really soft and it comes across slightly fruitier, even though the majority of the notes are floral based. It smells kind of sweet, but it is not sickly or overpowering. It is not really a unique scent as I have smelled something similar before, but it is lovely and I am tempted to purchase a bottle.

The masculine version is called Valentino Uomo Born in Roma. It is described as a spicy woody scent and it is an eau de toilette. It doesn’t share any notes in common with the feminine version, which I find a little strange. It kind of smells like a generic aftershave, like if you caught a whiff of it; you would instantly know it was a man’s aftershave. Once the notes settle, it does smell quite strong, fresh and sexy. It doesn’t resemble the feminine version at all. I wouldn’t say it is particularly spicy, but I can smell the woody notes. I actually quite like it and I would purchase it for a partner (if I currently had one!).

You can buy it in 30ml (£55/$75), 50ml (£76/$100), 100ml (£110/$130) and it is available from; Valentino.com and Boots.com.

Oden's Eye Norn’s Mesmerizer Highlighters

When I saw that Oden’s Eye posted on their Instagram page about their new Norn’s Series Collection, I knew I would be making my second purchase of their products. The collection as a whole includes four eyeshadow palettes and three highlighters. The palettes all looked beautiful, but I knew I wouldn’t get much use out of them and I didn’t just want to buy them to swatch and post about and then not use again. I did want to buy all three highlighters, but I settled on the two that I would get most use out of. The one I didn’t choose is a stunning blue and silver shade and I just knew I wouldn’t wear it as much as the other two. I already own a few other blue highlighters and I hardly ever wear them. I believe only the three highlighters are limited edition and the eyeshadow palettes are all permanent. ABOUT THE PRODUCT In Norse mythology, three sisters (Norn’s) weave and guard the web of fate. They also attend the spring of life that supports the World Tree. The highlighters reflect the ...

ZOEVA Rose Golden Palette

I saw this palette a while ago on a beauty blog and instantly knew I had to have it. It’s not long launched here in the UK, but it’s already a cult favourite! I just adore the packaging, everything about it! It’s made out of cardboard, but it feels sturdy and durable and it is a gorgeous kind of coffee/red velvet chocolate colour. It has a beautiful rose gold design on the front, with swirls and then a centered key. It has a magnetic closing, which is quite strong because if you hold it from the top when closed and give it a shake, the two parts don’t separate (palette doesn’t open). It has a light feel in general and inside it’s all one beautiful colour and the eyeshadows are well spaced. Around each pan is a rose gold diamond border and underneath in small rose gold letters are the shade names. On the back of the palette is the usual ingredients and other information blurbs. You get ten full size eyeshadows (0.5oz) with matte, metallic or satin finishes and each has a cute...

My Eye Primers: The Verdict!

It has taken me a long time to put this altogether, but I have finally done it! I decided I wanted to share my thoughts on eye primers I had tried and it turned out that I had ten, so I thought I would test them and find out which one worked best for me. I have split them into two categories (High End/Low End) and I aim to rank them from #1 to #10 on which is the longest wearing. Let’s look at the primers I will be testing. HIGH END URBAN DECAY PRIMER POTION PRICE: £17.50 SIZE: 10ml SHADES: Original, Anti-ageing, Freebase, Eden, Fix, Minor Sin, Sin and Caffeine APPLICATION: Squeeze tube without a nozzle, but also has a sponge stick applicator PROMISES: Non-creasing, gives you vibrant eyeshadows WHERE TO BUY: UrbanDecay.co.uk (UK) & Sephora (USA) I like to think that this primer is my favourite as I love the packaging (purple is my favourite colour). It is potion bottle inspired and it is the first primer I remember ever seeing and wanting. The packa...
