Make-Up Storage ENVY! #3

Photo: IKEA.com
I have done a couple of these posts before and I thought it was time I did another, seeing as though I am still not happy with my make-up collection set up/storage.

I did re-decorate my bedroom just over a couple of years ago and I decided on getting one of the IKEA Alex 9 Drawer Units for my make-up. It seemed like the fashion to have one, but it is not at all practical in my opinion! The drawers only come out two thirds of the way, so you have wasted/unusable space at the back of them. I believe you can take out a couple of screws on the drawers and you should be able to fully open them, but this could also damage the strength of the unit, which is why I haven’t tried it. I struggled for a long time to find storage trays to fit in the drawers. I did purchase eight of the IKEA STÖDJA Cutlery Trays for this unit as they were recommended, but they actually do not fit in the drawers!!

Eventually, after using multiple cutlery trays and Tupperware type boxes, I came across a website called MissOrg.com, where you can buy acrylic organisers especially made to fit the IKEA Alex 9 Drawers. I decided to purchase some for my powder, lipstick and foundation drawers. They arrive in pieces so you do have to build the organisers yourself. The only downfall is that each piece has a plastic covering on each side, which needs to be peeled off before being put together with other pieces. This process takes a very long time if you buy multiple sets! I can’t remember how many sets I bought all together because I have bought more and swapped things around multiple times since my first purchase. I know one set does a whole lipstick drawer (150 lipsticks). At the moment I am using the organisers for powder compacts (powder, bronzers and highlighters), lipstick (liquid and bullet), face primers, foundations, setting sprays and small eye palettes. The only drawer that is made up perfectly is the lipstick drawer as they do fit in the organiser perfectly. All of my powder compacts didn’t fit, so I had to remove some of the dividers which make one side large enough for the bigger compacts. Another downside is that the organisers come in four colours only; Glass Look (translucent blue/green), Parma Violet (opaque pastel lilac), Frosty Pink (opaque bubblegum pink) and Lemon Bonbon (opaque pastel yellow). I chose the Glass Look as I wanted the clearest looking ones as possible. They can also break pretty easily if you are heavy handed. This is good though if you want to make some of the pieces shorter by cutting or breaking them to your desired length.

My current set up isn’t perfect, but it does work and I am making do. Ideally, I would like bigger drawers, a bit like the IKEA PAX System. You can buy different parts and put them together to create your own perfect set up. This now seems to be the desired option for beauty influencers to store their make-up. I would probably have a few of the longer drawers and then some shelves if I were to build one. I would also get some custom made inserts for the drawers to store some products. Here are the sorts of inserts I have in mind:

The inserts would obviously be a lot bigger and would fill the drawers; I think clear acrylic or white would look best.

I won’t be changing my set up for a long while yet anyway. I feel like my collection has outgrown its current set up and I am bored of it, but it isn’t large enough to fill the PAX system yet. I would most likely get the PAX system as a wardrobe system and make sure there are drawers and or shelves for my cosmetics products, this way it would be an all in one unit and it wouldn’t look as odd. I would actually love a built in closet and I would probably just get built in drawers for my make-up and bypass the PAX system altogether.

Katie Price 'Stunning' Perfume VS JoJo Siwa 'Be You' Perfume - Are they the same?

I was browsing on AllBeauty.com and looking at celebrity fragrances and I saw that one was listed for JoJo Siwa. I had heard of JoJo before, but I don’t really know anything about her. I clicked on it out of interest and when I first saw the image of the perfume, I thought maybe the wrong photograph had been uploaded until I clicked on it and saw the description of the perfume. When I first saw the photograph, before I clicked on it to read the description, I instantly thought, that’s Stunning by Katie Price! I looked into it a bit more and compared it to Stunning. The JoJo Siwa “version” is called Be You. Jouer Skinny Dip Palette

I first saw this palette when Jouer released their Skinny Dip make-up collection and I nearly bought it, but I changed my mind because I already have a million palettes. As you can see, I have changed my mind again and I am very glad that I did. The packaging is quite compact. It is made out of reflective foil gold cardboard and the typography is simple. It has a magnetic closing, which you lift to reveal a small rectangular mirror on one side and then the six eyeshadow pans on the other. The shade names are written underneath each pan. You get six ultra-foil shimmer eyeshadows in blinding shades with a net weight of 7.5g. The sixth shade is actually described as more of a glitter shade. STAR LIGHT - platinum BIKINI - champagne pink SKINNY DIP - champagne gold TAN LINES - antique bronze MAGIC HOUR - warm taupe MIDNIGHT SWIM - cocoa bronze The eyeshadows should be highly pigmented, have an intense shimmery and metallic finish, be long wearing and cre

Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters

These were first launched in the USA and I remember waiting for a while for them to arrive in the UK. When they finally arrived I knew I had to try them out. I waited until they were on offer at £5.99 and I wanted to pick shades I knew I would wear and because they are not lipsticks I thought I would be safe to pick up a brighter colour I wouldn’t usually choose. The packaging is made of plastic and has a sort of quilted design on two sides of four and the colour of the packaging corresponds to the shade it is housing. The base is black plastic, which has the shade sticker. The cylindrical tube the product is dispensed from is made of reflective silver plastic. To dispense the product, you pull the packaging off and twist the base. The butter is slanted in shape and has a flat base. It is a gel formula with mango, shea and cocoa butter. You get 2.5g of product in each tube. There are many shades ranging from light to dark, but I currently only have two. The two shades I have
