Melt Cosmetics Smoke Sessions Palette

I have had this palette a little while now and I still remember how badly I wanted this palette before it was available in the UK. As soon as it was announced that BeautyBay.com were going to stock Melt Cosmetics, I eagerly waited for this palette. I missed the first batch that was launched, but managed to get one from the second round. My first one arrived broken (see photo below) and I was sent a replacement, which arrived in great condition. The eyeshadow formula is quite fragile, so whenever I order a Melt Cosmetics Palette I always worry about them arriving broken. Ironically, the broken eyeshadow looked like crushed up Cannabis!
THE PACKAGING
The packaging is quite a long rectangular shape and it is made out of cardboard. It has a metallic green background with silver Cannabis plants printed across it. The writing is in a silver font. It has a magnetic closing and once lifted; it reveals the eight rounded rectangular eyeshadow pans on a matte black background with the shade names written in silver. It also has a small mirror on the underside of the lid.

MY THOUGHTS
·        Primer/Base - The eyeshadows are pigmented enough without a primer or base, but I would always lay one down. I used Too Faced Shadow Insurance and Too Faced Glitter Glue.
·        Pigmentation - The pigmentation is amazing, but the mattes can look a little patchy.
·        Application (wet/dry) - The eyeshadows can be applied wet or dry. I always use mattes dry, unless I am applying them to my lower lash line or using them as eyeliner. I sometimes apply metallics/shimmers wet, but it depends on the formula and whether they contain glitters. Wet application can max up the pigmentation and help prevent fallout.
·        Blending - The matte shades blend out pretty well, they kind of come across a little patchy but I think it is just the shades; it is mean’t to look grungy.
·        Kick-Back - Obviously, there is always going to be kick-back in your eyeshadow pans as you are disturbing powders. The kick-back was not a concern or issue for me in this particular palette.
·        Fallout - There is no fallout from the matte shades, but there is mega fallout from the metallic shades. A highly adhesive glitter glue is needed!

I like that the packaging is simple and slim line. I’m not overly keen on the theme, but I do like the colour story even if it isn’t my typical look. The ratio of finishes isn’t great, but with a grungy look you can get away with using one matte on your eyes as a transition and crease shade. You can put a bit on and blend it far out like a transition shade and then apply a more concentrated amount to darken your crease. I found that Sour Diesel applied the best out of the two matte shades. The metallic shades are brilliant and so richly pigmented. My favourite shades overall are Sweet Tooth and Grand Daddy. The only issues are that you cannot really get a vast variety of looks out of the palette with there only being two mattes. Each of the six metallic shades do look very different, but I tend to use two to three metallics on my eye lids when I do a look. Also, a couple of the metallic shades were quite chunky in texture; Black Widow (also the least pigmented metallic of the palette) and Blue Dream. I wold also recommend that you do your base make-up after your eyes due to the fallout from the metallic shades. Overall, I did enjoy using this palette and would recommend it as an accent palette as you would need more matte shades to create a variety of looks. I do kind of regret buying this palette as it isn’t one I really reach for, but the Sweet Tooth shade is just so stunning! I do also own the Melt Cosmetics Gemini Palette and I will post about it soon, I previously owned the Twenty Seven Palette but I decluttered it. I have liked all three palettes I have tried from Melt Cosmetics, so I would purchase another one should a colour story appeal to me.

My Eye Primers: The Verdict!

It has taken me a long time to put this altogether, but I have finally done it! I decided I wanted to share my thoughts on eye primers I had tried and it turned out that I had ten, so I thought I would test them and find out which one worked best for me. I have split them into two categories (High End/Low End) and I aim to rank them from #1 to #10 on which is the longest wearing. Let’s look at the primers I will be testing. HIGH END URBAN DECAY PRIMER POTION PRICE: £17.50 SIZE: 10ml SHADES: Original, Anti-ageing, Freebase, Eden, Fix, Minor Sin, Sin and Caffeine APPLICATION: Squeeze tube without a nozzle, but also has a sponge stick applicator PROMISES: Non-creasing, gives you vibrant eyeshadows WHERE TO BUY: UrbanDecay.co.uk (UK) & Sephora (USA) I like to think that this primer is my favourite as I love the packaging (purple is my favourite colour). It is potion bottle inspired and it is the first primer I remember ever seeing and wanting. The packa...

Perfume Power! - Next 'Paradise'

I first smelt this perfume after receiving it in a mini gift set about ten years ago and I have loved it ever since. This 100ml size is my first bottle of it though, other than the tester/sample size. The bottle is quite tall and it is a sort of clutch bag shape if you turn it on its side. The bottle is a simple design and you can easily see how much perfume you have. On mine the spray pump sometimes gets stuck in the band around the neck of the bottle, but the problem is easily solved. I can’t find a specific note list anywhere for this perfume, but on Next’s site it is described as, "a light fruity fragrance with white florals and green notes". To me it smells really fruity and fresh. It is also multifunctional because it is quite strong and sexy, so perfect for a night out, but it is also not too overpowering and smells fresh and fruity enough for day time wear. It is actually an eau de toilette, which means that it is less concentrated, but I find that it is st...

Oden's Eye Solmåne Eyeshadow Palette

I first heard of this indie brand through watching Angelika Oles’ beauty channel on YouTube. Oden’s Eye is a Swedish indie brand and they make Norse mythology themed products. This is one of two eyeshadow palettes I decided to purchase; I also picked up the two matching highlighter palettes.   THE PACKAGING The packaging is small and rectangular in shape. It is made out of cardboard and it has a sort of textured covering (like on pogs). The design and imagery is so unique to the brand. Solmåne means the sun and moon in Swedish. Sol represents the Sun Goddess and Måne represents the Moon God. Both Gods are represented on the packaging. There is a colour split of warm and cool toned shades (lavender, pink, orange & yellow) along with moon, star and Norse symbols. The wheel around the Gods is metallic gold, so it really reflects the light when you move the palette around. The eyeshadow shade names are printed on the back of the palette. The palette has a magnetic closing/opening, ...
